Each individual trying out for the beach patrol must pass the physical tryout. This includes several running and swimming events that test physical strength and endurance, mental toughness, and swimming proficiency. Events will be timed and scored on a point basis.
The tryout will consist of, but may not be limited to the following:
- 1 mile run in under 8:00
- 500 meter distance swim in under 10:00
- 150 yard soft-sand sprint in under :30
- 50 meter sprint swim
- A run-swim-run combination event (50yd x 50yd x 50yd)
- 2 simulated water rescues and carries
- 1 minute sit-up and 1 minute push-up test
