Originally Rehoboth and Dewey Beach had been slated for a supplemental replenishment but after an Army Corp evaluation it was decided that Bethany Beach would receive a replenishment of between 200,000 and 300,000 cubic yards of sand. This replenishment is scheduled (weather permitting) to begin sometime this coming February. This will be a beach only replenishment constructed by Weeks Marine in conjunction with the Army Corp of Engineers. The replenishment will be completed within 4 to 6 weeks. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources will then reconstruct the dune and dune crossovers in the spring after the Corps replenishment. This “surprise’ replenishment is one of the benefits of having received the initial major beach reconstruction and indicates the Army Corp’s commitment to maintain these projects.
