Beach access at Ocean View Parkway is closed.

The contractor estimates that he will be able to rebuild two ramps per day. While crossovers are being reconstructed, they will be closed to the public. We will try to keep an updated list of crossovers that are closed on this page, but as the contractor completes work on one crossover he will immediately move to the next.

The Town of Bethany Beach has fielded a number of queries in recent days regarding beach crossovers/walkways and dune fence.

The rebuilding of our dune and beach is completed and was certainly needed. We can once again enjoy a wide and accommodating beach.

But the project is not over yet. The project not only calls for beach and dune replenishment but also calls for the USACE sub contractor to install dune fence and construct new crossovers. The project calls for a hard walkable surface to be constructed for each beach crossover involved in the replenishment. This surface is walkable without a mat, but can quickly deteriorate depending on weather conditions. We will be placing mats as needed when this new surface becomes problematic throughout the rest of the summer. However, because of the project design, the Town was able to install mats at both Fourth Street and Fifth Street the week of June 25th.

Work on crossovers and beach fencing is slated to begin the second week in July and unfortunately construction on our handicap ramps at Ocean View Parkway and Wellington Parkway will not begin until later in the summer.

The dates and scheduling of any work associated with crossovers and the replacement of dune fence is outside of the Town's or the State's ability to schedule or control and is part of the contract between the United States Army Corp of Engineers has with the Great Lakes Dredging Company.
