[ARCHIVED] Bethany Beach Partners with Delaware Solid Waste Authority to Offer Volunteer Recycling

The Town of Bethany Beach is pleased to be able to offer in conjunction with the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) a voluntary recycling program that will be available this month.

Participants in the program will receive a 65 gallon wheeled container which will act as a common container for the recyclables.

RECYCLABLES

Paper and Junk Mail
Newspapers, phonebooks, office paper, flyers, catalogs, magazines and wrapping paper.

Cardboard and Paperboard
Corrugated appliances and storage boxes. Cereal boxes and tissue boxes.

Plastic Bottles
Plastic milk jugs, soda, detergent, and shampoo bottles, plastic bags.

Cans
Aluminum and steel cans, empty aerosol cans, food and beverage cans, pet food cans

Glass
Clear, green and brown glass containers.

All the materials listed above may be placed together in the wheeled cart.

Participants in the program may request 35 gallon carts if they are a senior citizen, are disabled or a single member household.

Pickup is scheduled from May through September every Friday and October through April pick up is the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

The cost to the home owner will be $32.00 a year. This cost will be billed with your yearly tax/sanitation bill. There is no prorating of the bill, the flat fee for the service is $32.00 regardless of the months you will actually use the service.

Citizens may participate in our recycling effort by filling out the application and returning it to the Town Hall or mailing to the address on the application.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO CONDO OWNERS OR RESIDENTS WHO SHARE
ONE COMMON DUMPSTER IN THEIR COMMUNITY

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority policy mandates the DSWA will only provide one common recycling container for shared use in communities that share a common dumpster for general refuse. DSWA policy also mandates that a pick up fee be charged every homeowner in this type of community if the community elects to participate in the recycling initiative. In other words; if there are 20 homes in your condo development, all 20 homes must fill out the application for participation and all 20 homes must pay the yearly $32.00 bill. Should your condo association wish to pursue a plan where the association pays for all members once a year (possibly collected with association dues) please contact the Town Manager’s Office at 302-537-3771 and we will attempt to make those types of arrangements.
